b. PIMA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS-DISTRICT 1

Joe Higgins – originally from Wisconsin, raised here in Tucson, a graduate of U of A and a Tucson businessperson.   Small Business Commission of the City of Tucson, Chair.    Community called to him to considering running for office.    County taxes are higher than most other counties.    He is responsive, on the ball and will be engaged in activities.   Infrastructure costs - reducing Pima County bureaucracy.

ANN DAY – Ann’s been an elected official for 18 years.   Has represented Catalina for a long time.    County Supervisor for eight years.   She’s a self-reliant problem-solver.    Perspective of the past / focus for the future.   Hard work of bringing people together from all walks of life, listening and creating solutions through compromise and action.   Focused on sustainability.

 STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS/ACTION ITEMS

ARBER RIDGE CONDOMINIUM REZONING REQUEST – condos directly behind Basha’s – 14 months into the process of building these condominiums behind Basha’s.   20 acres – between Oracle, Golder Ranch Twin Lakes and Hawser – 142 units total – 140 condos and 2 single family residences.   700-800 feet desert land scape entrance.    Not really visible from any streets surrounding it.   Retaining riparian areas, retaining slopes also.   Extensive buffering around site.   Tried to provide large open spaces and low density in project.   60% of land into open space.    6.9 units per acre on upper part, 10 units per acre on lower area.   Community Park in center of community.   Community center with heated pool.  Estimated cost for condos = $300,000.    Project will fund money to the school system with no caveats involved.   Members of the audience voiced strong disapproval secondary to traffic issues, water issues and no benefit for the citizens of Catalina.   Audience pressed speaker for solutions to the traffic generated at Twin Lakes and Golder Ranch Road – which the speaker was not able to directly address.
